Halloween Hair Tips

Halloween Hair Tips

Sixteen days left until your Instagram feed explodes with the amazing photographic evidence of possibly the best holiday of the year – of course, I am talking about Halloween. There are so many reasons why I love Halloween, but reason number one is that, as a Master Hair Colorist, I am a fan of transformation. I love when people play with their look and aren’t afraid to take risks. One of the biggest factors in changing your look starts with your hair; this can make or break your Halloween costume. For example, you can put on the the most fabulous fire-engine red sequin gown with the highest slit known to man, but, unless you’ve got the hair to match, you are no Jessica Rabbit. This can be tricky because most people see changing their hair style or color as a permanent change, but it doesn’t have to be. Below are my recommendations for the easiest methods to change up your hair for Halloween without the commitment.

Temporary Hair Color: Yes, there is such a thing and there are actually a variety of methods you can take. The first is to book appointment with a hair colorist (I do this service, please e-mail me to book) who works with temporary color. The temporary color that I use is non-toxic, organic, and disappears completely after a few washes. Another option is hair paint which comes in a mascara-like tube with a mascara-like brush. You pull the color onto your hair with the brush and let it dry. The color should disappear after one rinse.

Hair Extension Clip-in’s: I love a great set of clip-in’s because you can create any hairstyle you want by placing the clips in the appropriate places. I recommend teasing the hair at the root and applying a light hold hairspray to ensure that the clip will be secure. If it is your first time wearing hair extensions, it may take a minute to get used to, but by the middle of the night you’ll forget you even have them in. After the evening’s festivities gently take them out and brush your hair gently to avoid breakage.

Wigs: Wigs are potentially the most drastic hairstyle change because of all the funky kinds you can buy. Blame it on my love of film noir, but I love having a few high-quality wigs on hand to turn myself into one of my beloved femme-fatale’s. If you have the opportunity, I recommend purchasing a high-quality wig because they look more natural and you can use them for years to come.
