Color of the Year: Rose Quartz & Serenity

Every year designers, retailers and creatives all over the world look forward to the unveiling of the new Pantone Color of the Year. When in comes to color in 2016, we can expect to look forward to a kaleidoscope of pastel hues featuring the two new stars of the color show: Rose Quartz and Serenity.

Never before has a duo of colors been released as the “color of the year.” Some are noting that the two colors are a nod to gender equality. In Pantone’s press release it stated, “Globally, we are experiencing gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design. This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity.” As Pantone’s Executive Director states below, the two colors are about connection, order and peace.

Color is the perfect mirror for the face of our society; and by the looks of this reflection, 2016 will be a harmonious, lighthearted, comforting year. Let’s take a look at the past 10 years of Pantone Color of the Year releases.

Here’s my personal ode to the new Pantone Colors of the Year, Rose Quartz and Serenity. I can’t wait to see what creative new products and styles will come out of these dignified yet delicate colors.
