Keep Your Hair Color Vibrant and Healthy in Cold Weather

October flew by in the blink of an eye and pretty soon the weather is going to go from chilly to full on winter. As a Chicago native I truly appreciate the winter cold and the merriment it brings with it. However, as a Master Hair Colorist I dread it because it wreaks absolute havoc on hair color vibrancy and hair health overall. Hair tends to get frigid and dry in these months and because most people don’t know the subtle nuances of proper hair care their hair color ends up looking quite dull. Today, we are going to discuss my favorite hair color and hair health savers for the colder months. These are tips that I have picked up in my years as a Master Hair Colorist and that I impart to every single one of my personal clients. Follow these tips and your hair will think that it is still summer! 1.I know that you treasure your hot showers (especially in the winter months), but showering in hot water is not the best for hair color vibrancy and hair health. One trick of the trade (and a nice little compromise) is to do a cool rinse at the end of the shower to flatten the cuticle. The flatter the cuticle the shinier your hair color will be and it will help maintain hair health. 2. I don’t know how to convey in words how upset I get when I see someone drying their hair by putting the blowdryer directly on their hair. Any Master Hair Colorist will tell you that this is among the habits that irks them the most. Using the blowdryer directly on the hair makes the hair color look lifeless and kills hair health. Pull the blow dryer at least six inches away from your hair when blowdrying and always use a nozzle for air flow control. 3. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but heat lamps erode and break down the cuticle cells of your hair. Stay away from them by bringing a jacket with you when you go out for the night to outdoor lounges or restaurants. Renee Taglia is located in a Beverly Hills California.
