Halloween Hair Tips

Halloween Hair Tips

Sixteen days left until your Instagram feed explodes with the amazing photographic evidence of possibly the best holiday of the year – of course, I am talking about Halloween. There are so many reasons why I love Halloween, but reason number one is that, as a Master Hair Colorist, I am a fan of transformation. I love when people play with their look and aren’t afraid to take risks. One of the biggest factors in changing your look starts with your hair; this can make or break your Halloween costume. For example, you can put on the the most fabulous fire-engine red sequin gown with the highest slit known to man, but, unless you’ve got the hair to match, you are no Jessica Rabbit. This can be tricky because most people see changing their hair style or color as a permanent change, but it doesn’t have to be. Below are my recommendations for the easiest methods to change up your hair for Halloween without the commitment. Temporary Hair Color: Yes, there is such a thing and there are actually a variety of methods you can take. The first is to book appointment with a hair colorist (I do this service, please e-mail me to book) who works with temporary color. The temporary color that I use is non-toxic, organic, and disappears completely after a few washes. Another option is hair paint which comes in a mascara-like tube with a mascara-like brush. You pull the color onto your hair with the brush and let it dry. The color should disappear after one rinse. Hair Extension Clip-in’s: I love a great set of clip-in’s because you can create any hairstyle you want by placing the clips in the appropriate places. I recommend teasing the hair at the root and applying a light hold hairspray to ensure that the clip will be secure. If it is your first time wearing hair extensions, it may take a minute to get used to, but by the middle of the night you’ll forget you even have them in. After the evening’s festivities gently take them out and brush your hair gently to avoid breakage. Wigs: Wigs are potentially the most drastic hairstyle change because of all the funky kinds you can buy. Blame it on my love of film noir, but I love having a few high-quality wigs on hand to turn myself into one of my beloved femme-fatale’s. If you have the opportunity, I recommend purchasing a high-quality wig because they look more natural and you can use them for years to come. What are you going to be this Halloween? City Vibes Through Hair Color

City Vibes Through Hair Color

As many of you know, I do a lot of traveling; in my opinion, traveling is the best education that you can give yourself, and it is quite possibly the only thing you pay for that actually makes you wealthier. I travel a lot for my work as a Master Hair Colorist and try to get away as much as I can when I can take a rare vacation. One of my favorite things about my travels is that each city- with it’s beauty, culture, and nuance- inspires my work. Every single city has a distinct vibe and, being a Master Hair Colorist, I automatically translate that vibe into hair styles and colors. Lately, my mind has been on foreign travels, the feelings I get when I go to the different cities, and what how these feelings translate into hair colors and styles. Below are three cities and what hair colors I associate with them. Paris: Parisian ladies are masters of effortless chic; As a matter of fact, they pretty much define what that means. They are relaxed, easy-going, and confident without trying too hard. As far as hair color is concerned, Paris screams Balayage. Much like the city’s inhabitants, the artistic and intuitive process of creating the perfect Balayage breeds results that look absolutely effortless. When the Balayage is done correctly it should looks like that is how your hair naturally is. Rome: As an Italian I am partial to all things Italy. Italians are known for their unapologetic sex appeal and a high degree of va-va-voom. For me, the hair color that represents Italy is a rich Espresso Brown (almost as rich as the espresso in Italy). Long, voluminous brunette locks reminds me of the confident Italian women whose beauty I grew up admiring. London: My absolute favorite with it’s gothic architecture and gray and dreary days- this is a city with pulse. There is a sense of sophistication in London that I haven’t found anywhere else in the world. When I think of London in terms of hair, I always picture a sleek, Jet Black, and straight- the ultimate sophistication. To pull of this look there definitely needs to be a little bit of fierce attitude and a don’t-mess-with-me demeanor. Which city has your favorite unique style? Five Travel Essentials

Five Travel Essentials

LA to Hawaii to San Francisco to Arizona, back to LA, then straight to the airport the next morning to fly to Chicago- this is a typical week and a half of my life as a Master Hair Colorist and Wella Educator. Saying, “I travel a lot,” would be the understatement of a century, but I wouldn’t have it any other way; In fact, it’s one of the things that I love most about the career I’ve enthusiastically worked to create. When you are traveling as much as I am, learning how to be good at packing is basically a survival skill. We’ve all been there when you arrive to your destination only to realize that you are missing essentials that will no doubt effect your trip. No matter where I am going or for how long, the following five are my must-have items on every trip. Dry shampoo: It should come as no surprise that the first thing I put on my non-compromise list is hair related. Dry shampoo is like a gift from the Gods; It’s a huge time-saver which is essential on a trip- who want’s to spend time washing and styling their hair when they can be out exploring? Not only does it save you a headache, but it’s also incredible for adding a little volume to your hair. My favorite dry shampoo is Wella’s EIMI Dry Me Dry Shampoo, try it and let me know your thoughts. Probiotics: Skipping around from one place to the next tends to compromise your eating schedule and you are most likely trying new cuisine to get a feel of the local flavor. This is one of the best parts of travel, but it can wreak havoc on your stomach causing you pain and bloat- yet another thing you don’t want to deal with EVER, but especially when you are traveling. A great way to prevent that is to take strong probiotic every morning on an empty stomach. Probiotics balance the good bacteria in your gut which help with digestion and inflammation. Rosewater facial spray: Air travel and changes in climate can create a dehydrated and dull appearance. The way I rectify these effects is by carrying a travel size bottle of Rosewater facial spray with me (my favorite is by Mario Bodescu). It’s a lightweight and fragrant way to revive the appearance of your skin, refresh you, and you can even use it set makeup. Stylish, yet comfortable, pair of flats: After I am done teaching and working with clients, I always make it a point to check out the city that I am in. To get the most out of the city in a short period of...

The Weather & Your Hair Color: Vegas Edition

The Weather & Your Hair Color: Vegas Edition

The life of a Wella Educator is an ongoing adventure. Constantly traveling to different cities keeps me in tune with changing trends, seasons and varying details that ultimately influence our hair! My latest trip to Vegas proved to be not only a teaching, but a learning experience. The first steps I took outside in Vegas I was literally blown away at the out of control winter and cold temperatures. This time of year is usually a bit chilly in Vegas, but nonetheless, it was shocking!   I made my way to Salon Bellagio to teach my first class. The lobby was decorated adorably with Lights and Thanksgiving Decor.  I always love teaching at the salon. My second class was at Canyon Falls Salon. The stylists are super talented, and the salon has the only walk-in extentions Hair Salon in the entire state. Amazing!   From merely people watching from the airport arrival and departure I noticed an over whelming number of women walking around with extremely brassy hair, which makes total sense due to the bright sun shine during the day. Bottom line: wind and sun have harsh effects on your hair; the sun inroads the outer cuticular layer and the wind absorbs all of the natural oils your hair produces. My prescription for Vegas, as crazy as it sounds, hats are an absolute must all year round for the ultimate protection again wind and sun effects.   On that note, hats off to Vegas! Cannot wait to go back!   Renee Taglia is located in a Beverly Hills California. Contact her here for a consultation on how to discover (and keep) your perfect color.
