Tips for Hair Growth

Tips for Hair Growth

Who doesn’t want long, luxurious hair? The question I get asked most often by my clients is how they can grow their hair faster. This is tricky because, while it does have to do with your hair grooming methods, what matters most is lifestyle choices and habits. Below are my top three tips for fast hair growth. Eat healthy: A diet filled with Omega-3 fatty acids is essential for aiding the growth of your hair as well as your overall health. Omega-3 fatty acids nourish your hair follicles for stronger and shinier hair. The proper amount of Omega-3 fatty acids will get rid of flaky hair, provide moisture for dry hair, and is even beneficial in preventing hair loss. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in salmon, nuts, chia seeds, and flax seeds. Quit smoking: If there was ever a vice that destroyed the hair smoking is most definitely it! If you talk to anyone who has ever quit smoking they will tell you that among the benefits they received, healthier hair was one of the most noticeable. Smoking constricts your blood vessels, restricting oxygen flow into your scalp, your hair ends up seriously in need of the nutrition that it’s not getting; the result of this is dry, brittle hair. There are also studies showing that smoking is connected to premature graying and hair loss. Take Viviscal: I swear by this product and have taken it myself as well as recommended it to many of my clients. Viviscal is a vitamin supplement that provides the hair with nourishment from within to help it grow. It does this by providing your hair with the nutrients it needs to prolong the anagen (hair growth) phase of your hair growth cycle. If you have been looking to take supplement definitely give Viviscal a try. Have a specific question about how to promote hair growth? Hot Tools for your Hair

Hot Tools for your Hair

As a Master Hair Colorist I always get question upon question about how to keep hair color looking fresh for as long as possible. The answer is simple: You have to keep your hair healthy! At this point you’re probably wondering, “Renee, I know that healthy hair is key- you’ve pointed that out about a hundred times- what am I supposed to do to keep my hair healthy?” Well, my dears, there are many answers to this question, but the most important one (which is also the topic of today’s blog) is to minimize your use of hot tools such as blow dryers, curling irons, and the worst of them all, flat irons.   If You Must, Use High-Quality Hot Tools If you can’t discontinue using them, then make absolute sure that you are using high-quality hot tools, this is definitely not the area where you want to economize. High-quality hot tools are not only better for your hair, but they will also last a lot longer than their cheap counterparts. I am very picky about the hot tools that I use when I am styling my hair or my clients hair and, after trying many different tools, I have developed a list of go-to’s that I can assure you will not damage your hair. For a blowdryer, my absolute favorite brand is Taiff, the only blowdryer on the market tested for true ionic power. It utilizes both negative ions (neutralizes static electricity and closes hair cuticle making your hair soft and shiny) and positive ions (naturally opens hair cuticle to enhance and absorb the benefits from your hair treatment). Taiff blowdryer is a true game-changer! Bonus Tip: When you are blowdrying your hair make sure that you are pointing the air flow in the direction your hair grows in order to prevent unwanted frizz. My favorite brand for a flat-iron is Ergo because not only is it a truly exceptional hot tool, it also reduces the severe breakage that is common with other flat irons. Ergo flat irons don’t pull your hair which causes it to break at the mid-shaft making your hair dull and weak. Last, but certainly not least, my curling iron of choice is the Hot Tools CeramicTI Tourmaline Curling Iron. This amazing curling iron helps seal the hair cuticle and protects the integrity of the hair and it give you breathtaking curls. Bonus Tip: Do not, under any condition, put hair spray on your hair prior to curling it as it causes serious breakage. Curl each strand and let it cool before you even think about setting it with hair spray. Do you have any hot tools that you swear by and think I...

All I Want for Christmas is…

The most wonderful time of the year is here! My wish list as an always on-the-go Master Colorist and Wella Educator is pretty simple. I need products that will be light enough to travel with and still pack the punch that I need to keep my tresses tame, healthy and shiny. First on my list is the SH-RD Repair series. These amazing products are enriched with herbal Rosemary and they help address hair that has been damaged by environmental factors, daily life stresses and chemical services. This ultra-affordable brush features IntelliFlex™ bristles which run effortlessly through hair, detangling without pulling or tugging. The Master Colorist Experience: Art Basel Miami

The Master Colorist Experience: Art Basel Miami

This was my first time attending Art Basel in Miami. From the fantastic people watching to the exclusive lineup of events, it was enthralling and inspiring to be surrounded by so much culture. Oh yes, and of course, there was plenty of ART. Some consider the first week of December to be the most important week in Miami. The Art Basel Miami event is a whirlwind of color, emotion and expression of over 280 of the world’s leading galleries and over 4000 artists. The two cities, Miami and Miami Beach, are now home to more than 20 pop-up art festivals. As you might imagine, taking in all of the paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs and films at Art Basel can feel slightly overwhelming. But the more you take in, the more moving and memorable the experience. I was really blown away by the video art. More and more art was 3 dimensional and responsive to touch. Here are a few of my favorite pieces from the show: “Since 1970, Art Basel’s goal has been to connect the world’s premier galleries and their patrons, as well serving as a meeting point for the international art world.” –Art Basel Can’t wait for the next one!   Renee Taglia is located in a Beverly Hills California. Contact her here for a consultation on how to discover (and keep) your perfect color. Up Level Halloween with Temporary Hair Color

Up Level Halloween with Temporary Hair Color

It’s almost the end of October and that means one thing: Halloween! I have always loved Halloween, but even more so since becoming a master hair colorist. You see, as a master hair colorist, I love creating and witnessing transformations which Halloween is all about. My heart skips a few beats when someone wholeheartedly commits to this night of make-believe and mayhem by going all out with their costume, not overlooking a single detail. Of course, “not overlooking a single detail,” means you need your hair color to come into the mix as well. You can’t be on point about your costume and makeup, but completely overlook the most important factor in how you look: your hair. Nasty wigs don’t cut it these days because they destroy the integrity of the costume (as you have probably gathered, I take Halloween pretty seriously). I know that it’s hard to commit to a hair color 180 for just one night. I mean, being a flamingo for Halloween is great, but you don’t want to be one the other 364 days of the year. This year, I have a beautiful solution for you: Temporary Hair Color. A completely safe alternative that disappears after you 5-15 washes. I highly recommend it for those of you who truly want to play this Halloween. Below I’ve listed three things that make Temporary Hair Color awesome: Its temporary!!! Forgive me for being obvious, but I just don’t see a bigger benefit. Temporary Hair Color opens up a whole new world because the number of costumes you can truly pull off expands x 100! You want to be Katy Perry for Halloween? Well, nothing says Katy Perry more than hair color so bright it rivals My Little Pony. Think you’d make a perfect Wednesday Addams? Wednesday isn’t Wednesday without hair color that is darker black than the darkest night. Keeping it low key and just going as a cat or lion? Up-level that costume by making your hair color the same as the animals main! I can go on, but I think you get the point. (My stunning model, @vividvivka, from a recent shoot) Temporary Hair Color will not effect the hair color beneath it. I would never make a recommendation that would damage the health of your hair and dull your hair color. Temporary hair color live outside the cuticular layer of your hair and last about 5-15 washes. (A look you may recognize if you follow me on Instagram – if you don’t you should start, @reneetaglia – how cool would this be for Halloween night?!) This isn’t just for Halloween, Temporary Hair Color is wonderful for those of you who have been dying to try out...
