I am a hair colorist in Beverly Hills, one of the most health-centric cities in the world, so I am no stranger to endless conversations about which foods are best for vitality, energy, well-being, and a gorgeous body. In my years of hair colorist training and experience as a Wella educator, I have learned that the most important component in hair color results is a healthy canvas. You will be happy to hear that healthy hair isn’t all great genes and good luck, you can nourish your way to healthy hair by eating the right foods. Here is a list of some of my favorite foods that are packed with the right nutrients for buoyant, shining, healthy hair: 1. Salmon: Salmon is a powerful source of B vitamins which are essential for healthy hair. It is also a potent source of protein, omega 3, and omega 6 fatty acids. A diet high in these nutrients will help your hair grow and keep it from becoming brittle. If you are a vegetarian/vegan chia seeds are a great alternative because of their similar nutritional composition; Simply sprinkle some in your water and let it sit for 10 minutes or more before drinking. 2. Avocado: Avocado is full of all B vitamins (except B12), omega 3, and omega 6 fatty acids. The oil in avocado has near miraculous benefits for attaining healthy hair. It helps add shine and luster, prevents hair loss, and promotes hair growth. This healthy fat works wonders by revitalizing dull hair and giving it life. I like to think of avocado as the adult version of ice cream because it is delicious and easy to enjoy. My favorite way of incorporating avocado into my diet is by squeezing some lemon juice onto a few slices. If you don’t share my love for this delicious fruit, don’t despair, using it as a topical treatment will also help you in your pursuit of healthy hair. 3. Walnuts: Walnuts are nutritionally charged and contain insignificant amounts of sodium (which is rare for nuts). They are a potent source of B vitamins (sensing a theme here?) and vitamin E. Walnuts nourish the hair follicles and strengthen hair at its root and are powerful source of biotin, which is basically a hair colorists miracle component for healthy hair. Add walnuts to your diet by snacking on a handful a day or blending some up in your morning smoothie. Renee Taglia is located in a Beverly Hills California.
