Glitter Roots for Halloween!

Glitter Roots for Halloween!

Halloween is right around the corner and, if you’re anything like me, you are scrambling to put together you last-minute (yet totally fabulous) costume. I’ve discovered the element that can bring your Halloween costume together perfectly- glitter roots. Glitter roots was an instant hit when photos started perking up on Instagram last December and it quickly became one of my favorite trends of last year. So when I started thinking about Halloween costumes this year, I realized that anything could be achieved if the correct glitter root is in place. Below are three different Halloween costumes you can create incorporating glitter roots. Cleopatra: Nothing better than choosing a queen/world-class seductress as your alter ego for the night. The Queen of the Nile is surprisingly easy to recreate. First things first, this requires hair parted down the middle with gold glitter roots through the center part. I recommend keeping your hair stick-straight and adding jewels to the tips to make it look authentic. As for the outfit, I would go with a gold bodysuit (like this one). Throw on a few pieces of gold jewelry and emulate her makeup and, voila, you are good to go. Cruella de Vil: One of my absolute favorite Disney villains because of her eccentric hair, Cruella requires a silvery-white glitter root parted to the side (best if you have dark hair). Add to it some long red gloves, a faux-fur coat, and a little black dress . Unicorn: This little piece of magic is always a really fun costume to put together because of how creative you can get with it. I would recommend adding a touch of temporary color with the glitter root of your choice (I love this one, for example). Make sure to use shimmer and glitter around your eyes and in your makeup as well (my favorite shimmer stick is Watts Up by Benefit, followed by High Beam also by Benefit) and a pop of color on the lips. You can also get creative with your outfit by incorporating color or sticking to silver and white. Halloween Hair Tips

Halloween Hair Tips

Sixteen days left until your Instagram feed explodes with the amazing photographic evidence of possibly the best holiday of the year – of course, I am talking about Halloween. There are so many reasons why I love Halloween, but reason number one is that, as a Master Hair Colorist, I am a fan of transformation. I love when people play with their look and aren’t afraid to take risks. One of the biggest factors in changing your look starts with your hair; this can make or break your Halloween costume. For example, you can put on the the most fabulous fire-engine red sequin gown with the highest slit known to man, but, unless you’ve got the hair to match, you are no Jessica Rabbit. This can be tricky because most people see changing their hair style or color as a permanent change, but it doesn’t have to be. Below are my recommendations for the easiest methods to change up your hair for Halloween without the commitment. Temporary Hair Color: Yes, there is such a thing and there are actually a variety of methods you can take. The first is to book appointment with a hair colorist (I do this service, please e-mail me to book) who works with temporary color. The temporary color that I use is non-toxic, organic, and disappears completely after a few washes. Another option is hair paint which comes in a mascara-like tube with a mascara-like brush. You pull the color onto your hair with the brush and let it dry. The color should disappear after one rinse. Hair Extension Clip-in’s: I love a great set of clip-in’s because you can create any hairstyle you want by placing the clips in the appropriate places. I recommend teasing the hair at the root and applying a light hold hairspray to ensure that the clip will be secure. If it is your first time wearing hair extensions, it may take a minute to get used to, but by the middle of the night you’ll forget you even have them in. After the evening’s festivities gently take them out and brush your hair gently to avoid breakage. Wigs: Wigs are potentially the most drastic hairstyle change because of all the funky kinds you can buy. Blame it on my love of film noir, but I love having a few high-quality wigs on hand to turn myself into one of my beloved femme-fatale’s. If you have the opportunity, I recommend purchasing a high-quality wig because they look more natural and you can use them for years to come. What are you going to be this Halloween? Predictions for Most Popular Halloween Looks 2015

Predictions for Most Popular Halloween Looks 2015

Halloween is a day away! If you’ve been keeping up with the blog, you know that the Master Hair Colorist in me loves any day that requires a little dress up. I have already talked about my favorite looks of years past, but what about this year? Each year brings with it a new set of trends which means that there will be a whole new set of popular costumes. I have a feeling that the following three are going to be making a massive appearance for Halloween 2015. “Suicide Squad” isn’t even out yet, but it has garnered a lot of buzz. The buzz isn’t just for the movie, however, it’s also for the killer transformations of the leading stars (Google: Jared Leto Joker to see what I mean). Margot Robbie’s transformation into Harley Quinn is so fun and I am predicting that it will be the most emulated movie character this year. The costume and makeup is fun, but you know my main focus is her amazing hair color! Harley Quinn’s hair is totally on trend with the cotton candy pink hair color on one end and the blue hair color on the other. You can get this look with a temporary hair color and, because it lasts about 10 washes, you can rock it for a week or two after. I honestly don’t know how Kate Moss as Morticia Addams happened to get past me for my Favorite Halloween Looks (Celeb Edition), but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Addams Family matriarch is everywhere on Halloween. Earlier this year a photo was released of Christina Ricci (who portrayed Wednesday Addams in the Addams Family movies) dressed as Morticia and she looked fierce! I am sure many people (including me) were inspired to don their sexiest long black dress, do their hair color jet black and head out on the town. The jet black hair color and the long straight locks are essential no matter what female member of the Addams Family you are going to be this year. This list would not be complete without the go-to for those who wait until the last minute to pick out their Halloween costume: The Black Cat. After all, we all have the obligatory all black outfit in our closet and what better excuse to go all out with a dramatic cat eye? Renee Taglia is located in a Beverly Hills California. Master Hair Colorists Picks for Best Halloween Looks (Celebrity Edition)

Master Hair Colorists Picks for Best Halloween Looks (Celebrity Edition)

As a Master Hair Colorist, I am pretty much obsessed with Halloween (any excuse for dressing up and I am all about it). That being said, my next few posts are going to be extremely Halloween-centric. As I try to find inspiration for my own costume, I keep looking through tons of pictures of celebrities costumes from past Halloween’s. Every year, we see our favorite TV, film, and music stars put together some pretty interesting Halloween looks. As I mentioned in my last post, I believe that the best Halloween costumes come from fully committing to the look – this includes costume, makeup, and the HAIR! Of course, as a Master Hair Colorist,  my prerequisite for an amazing Halloween look is how well the hair color and style coordinate with the costume. You’d be surprised how much I am completely unimpressed by the effort people put into having the hair color and hair style be on point for the costumes. There are times, however, when I find a person who has truly done a spectacular job with their hair color and hair style. So, without further ado, I bring you my Top Three Halloween Looks (Celebrity Edition)! Iggy Azaelea knocked it out of the park as one of our all-time favorite Disney villains, Cruella De Vil. Not only did she pull this off to perfection, but she also modernized Cruella’s wardrobe and truly committed to Cruella’s signature black and white hair color and hair style. Perfectly coiffed and with a dalmatian to boot- I can’t really ask for more. Heidi Klum is the queen of Halloween looks! Each year, she throws an elaborate Halloween party where she truly is costumed to perfection. Cleopatra may be a typical Halloween costume, but nobody does its quite like Heidi. She even bedazzled her face to embody how much of an absolute goddess and myth Cleopatra has become in modern day. I have never seen anyone do Cleopatra quite like this! I really tried to find another person for the third spot, but once again I have to give to Heidi Klum (or should I say Betty Boop?) I love that instead of opting for a plain, black bob, she actually created a awesome hair color and hair style for her version of Betty Boop. I think even Betty Boop would approve. I can’t wait to see what Heidi has up her sleeve this year! What are your favorite Halloween looks? Let me know in the comments below. Renee Taglia is located in a Beverly Hills California. Up Level Halloween with Temporary Hair Color

Up Level Halloween with Temporary Hair Color

It’s almost the end of October and that means one thing: Halloween! I have always loved Halloween, but even more so since becoming a master hair colorist. You see, as a master hair colorist, I love creating and witnessing transformations which Halloween is all about. My heart skips a few beats when someone wholeheartedly commits to this night of make-believe and mayhem by going all out with their costume, not overlooking a single detail. Of course, “not overlooking a single detail,” means you need your hair color to come into the mix as well. You can’t be on point about your costume and makeup, but completely overlook the most important factor in how you look: your hair. Nasty wigs don’t cut it these days because they destroy the integrity of the costume (as you have probably gathered, I take Halloween pretty seriously). I know that it’s hard to commit to a hair color 180 for just one night. I mean, being a flamingo for Halloween is great, but you don’t want to be one the other 364 days of the year. This year, I have a beautiful solution for you: Temporary Hair Color. A completely safe alternative that disappears after you 5-15 washes. I highly recommend it for those of you who truly want to play this Halloween. Below I’ve listed three things that make Temporary Hair Color awesome: Its temporary!!! Forgive me for being obvious, but I just don’t see a bigger benefit. Temporary Hair Color opens up a whole new world because the number of costumes you can truly pull off expands x 100! You want to be Katy Perry for Halloween? Well, nothing says Katy Perry more than hair color so bright it rivals My Little Pony. Think you’d make a perfect Wednesday Addams? Wednesday isn’t Wednesday without hair color that is darker black than the darkest night. Keeping it low key and just going as a cat or lion? Up-level that costume by making your hair color the same as the animals main! I can go on, but I think you get the point. (My stunning model, @vividvivka, from a recent shoot) Temporary Hair Color will not effect the hair color beneath it. I would never make a recommendation that would damage the health of your hair and dull your hair color. Temporary hair color live outside the cuticular layer of your hair and last about 5-15 washes. (A look you may recognize if you follow me on Instagram – if you don’t you should start, @reneetaglia – how cool would this be for Halloween night?!) This isn’t just for Halloween, Temporary Hair Color is wonderful for those of you who have been dying to try out...
