How to Maintain Your Hair While You Sleep

How to Maintain Your Hair While You Sleep

Happy November! I honestly cannot believe how quickly this year has flown by; with the blink of an eye, the holiday season is already upon us. It seems that time has, in actuality, started to speed up which got me thinking how valuable time is and this naturally lead me to how taking too long to style your hair is a nuisance (everything leads back to hair for me- what can I say? I love what I do). Among one of my pet peeves is when you style your hair for the next day right before you go to sleep hoping that it will save you time in the morning. As you may know all too well, this tactic hardly goes as planned. In the interest of saving time (pun intended), I have put together a list that may help you preserve your hard styling work in your slumber — or at least make it easier to style the next morning: Don’t sleep with wet hair: Sleeping with wet hair makes your hair prone to frizz and breakage which makes styling a nightmare. By sleeping with your hair wet you are, without a doubt, adding additional style time to your morning. Elastic bands are a no-no: The elastic will put a dent in your freshly blowdried hair which, even when flat-ironed, often does not regain the original form intended. It may also have the affect of adding volume to the bottom of the hair and flattening the top (basically the opposite of what you want). Use a soft scrunchie in place of the elastic bands for more favorable results. Use a silk or satin pillowcase: These materials are far gentler on your hair and will help prevent breakage unlike traditional pillows which exacerbate breakage. As an alternative you can also wrap your hair in a silk or satin scarf before you go to sleep. Brush your hair before you sleep: Marcia Brady was on to something- brushing your hair after a long day and lots of product will make help maintain hair health, diminish breakage, and keep your hair from being an absolute styling nightmare in the morning. Try these techniques and let me know how they work for you in the comments below! Renee Taglia is located in a Beverly Hills California. Top Picks for Hairsprays

Top Picks for Hairsprays

I’m from Chicago and it’s true what they say- it really is the “Windy City.” Naturally, this spells out disaster for your hair as the high impact of heavy wind does not take kindly to long locks. Yes, I am a Master Hair Colorist, but my connoisseur status has developed more out of necessity than my expertise with all things hair-related. Below are my top picks for hairspray’s that get the job done while maintaining the health of your hair. Best for healthy hair: Stylbrid 9 by Sebastian is ideal if you are serious about maintaining hair health. This magnificent product helps bring out the natural shine in your hair and compliments with an additional touch of sleek. It also provides maximum hold and volume all the while protecting your hair from UV and heat. is the perfect primer – for sleek looks with natural shine and hold, defined curls, texture and volume. Best for maximum hold: Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Hairspray is an ideal option for strong winds, even the mighty Chicago wind. I love recommending this hairspray to clients who need their hair to hold all day. It is ideal for red carpet events, photo shoots, weddings, etc. Best smelling: For a romantic night when you require your hair to hold, but you also want your hair to smell like heaven, opt for Oribe Hairspray. It’s a lightweight option and it leaves your hair soft (perfect for running your fingers through). It also smells so good that you will want to use it as perfume. Best for every day use: My choice for the practicality and function of your day to day is Sebastian Shaper Plus Hairspray. For all intents and purposes, this hairspray is as classic as it they get. What I love most about is that I actually control the level of volume of my hair when I use it, so it is a versatile option for many hairstyles. It is light-weight and it doesn’t make your hair feel stiff which is wonderful because you don’t have to wash your hair as frequently. What is your favorite hairspray? Beach Hair, Don’t Care!

Beach Hair, Don’t Care!

I can’t believe that summer 2016 is upon us! This year is flying by so quickly, but I can’t complain because my favorite season is officially a few short weeks away. Whatever your travel plans may be this year, I hope you spend a significant amount of time relaxing at the beach. Not only is it beautiful, but being out in nature (especially by the ocean) is a soul-gratifying experience; Dig your feet into the sand, close your eyes and simply listen to the waves, and you will automatically understand what I mean. There is, however, one inevitable downfall of vacationing by the ocean and in tropical climates: it wreaks havoc on your hair. As you may know if you follow me on Instagram, I have been traveling back and forth to Hawaii for work, and it has given me the opportunity to truly figure out what to do to keep my hair looking picture-ready in tropical weather. Below are my top three tips for how to keep hair looking picture-perfect as you spend your day having fun in the sun: Embrace nature: Lets be honest, no matter what you do, your immaculate blow dry is not going to look so immaculate after a beach day. The air and the wind give you that messy, tousled effect, and as far as I am concerned, the best thing to do is go with the flow- embrace it! Instead of trying to beat the inevitable, use a product that will enhance what is naturally happening. One of my absolute favorite hair products for tropical weather is Bumble and Bumble’s Invisible Oil. This lightweight oils helps detangle and de-frizz beach hair as well as protecting it from sun damage. Braid your hair: Braids are definitely having a moment right now- you don’t have to look any further than Pinterest to see that they are all the rage. I love them because there is a variety of types you can do and it’s a pulled together hairstyle that has longevity. Braids and the beach is like champagne and strawberries- a perfect combination! Loose braids are always better because tight braids pull and damage the hair. I recommend using the Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil when you put the braid in so that when you brush it out you will be left with gorgeous waves (think of it as two hairstyles in one). Wear a hat:¬†Perhaps the most basic solution of all is to take a chic hat with you wherever you go! Wide brim, cap, fedora- no matter what your style, a hat is a great way to solve your beach hair dilemma. As a bonus, a hat is also the ultimate way...

Master Hair Colorists Picks for Best Halloween Looks (Celebrity Edition)

Master Hair Colorists Picks for Best Halloween Looks (Celebrity Edition)

As a Master Hair Colorist, I am pretty much obsessed with Halloween (any excuse for dressing up and I am all about it). That being said, my next few posts are going to be extremely Halloween-centric. As I try to find inspiration for my own costume, I keep looking through tons of pictures of celebrities costumes from past Halloween’s. Every year, we see our favorite TV, film, and music stars put together some pretty interesting Halloween looks. As I mentioned in my last post, I believe that the best Halloween costumes come from fully committing to the look – this includes costume, makeup, and the HAIR! Of course, as a Master Hair Colorist, ¬†my prerequisite for an amazing Halloween look is how well the hair color and style coordinate with the costume. You’d be surprised how much I am completely unimpressed by the effort people put into having the hair color and hair style be on point for the costumes. There are times, however, when I find a person who has truly done a spectacular job with their hair color and hair style. So, without further ado, I bring you my Top Three Halloween Looks (Celebrity Edition)! Iggy Azaelea knocked it out of the park as one of our all-time favorite Disney villains, Cruella De Vil. Not only did she pull this off to perfection, but she also modernized Cruella’s wardrobe and truly committed to Cruella’s signature black and white hair color and hair style. Perfectly coiffed and with a dalmatian to boot- I can’t really ask for more. Heidi Klum is the queen of Halloween looks! Each year, she throws an elaborate Halloween party where she truly is costumed to perfection. Cleopatra may be a typical Halloween costume, but nobody does its quite like Heidi. She even bedazzled her face to embody how much of an absolute goddess and myth Cleopatra has become in modern day. I have never seen anyone do Cleopatra quite like this! I really tried to find another person for the third spot, but once again I have to give to Heidi Klum (or should I say Betty Boop?) I love that instead of opting for a plain, black bob, she actually created a awesome hair color and hair style for her version of Betty Boop. I think even Betty Boop would approve. I can’t wait to see what Heidi has up her sleeve this year! What are your favorite Halloween looks? Let me know in the comments below. Renee Taglia is located in a Beverly Hills California. Three Benefits of the Keratin Hair Treatment

Three Benefits of the Keratin Hair Treatment

Easy to style, silky hair is one of the most coveted desires for many women. We all want to walk down the street while our beautiful, easy, breezy hair flows just perfectly in the wind. Unfortunately, this is the farthest thing from our hair reality. We have to resort to over-styling, putting too much product, and generally stressing out way too much over our hair. It takes up too much time, annoyance, and mental energy. For the ladies who feel like they practically sleep with the flat-iron in their hand, I highly recommend getting a Keratin treatment. It will change your life – trust me! On an episode of AOL’s Hairapy, I performed a Keratin treatment on Bethel, whose unruly hair was driving her crazy. Watch the video to see the gorgeous results then read on for the Top Three Benefits of the Keratin Hair Treatment. The Keratin Hair Treatment reduces styling time which is beneficial on a practical level, but also great for your hair. Imagine not having to put aside a huge chunk of time for your hair to look decent. Sounds like heaven, doesn’t it? While this is a huge perk, what is even better is that the less you expose your hair to heat the healthier your hair will be. The Keratin Treatment enables you to give your hair a break from heavy duty styling. Keratin is naturally found in your hair. Unlike the Japanese Hair Straightening Treatment it doesn’t change the internal structure of you hair to get it super straight. So what does it do? It works with the natural structure of your hair to ease the curl and get rid of the frizz. In short, it turns your hair into the best version of itself. You will not be victim to the whims of mother nature. Yes, you heard right! Your hair will not poof up in humid weather, nor will you have to run and hide from the slightest drizzle because you are afraid your hair will tangle and become unruly. For four to six blissful months you can experience the entire spectrum of weather without worrying about your hair looking terrible. Renee Taglia is located in a Beverly Hills California.
