My Favorite Ways to Spend the Fourth of July

My Favorite Ways to Spend the Fourth of July

One of my absolute favorite holidays is the Fourth of July- possible do to my love of fireworks, the beach, and hot weather. This holiday to me signifies the official beginning of summertime and all the glory that comes along with it. I’ve had some pretty memorable Fourth of July’s throughout the years, and throughout time have truly come to understand my favorite ways to celebrate. Below is a list of my top ways to celebrate the Fourth: Personal Spa Day: At times, I love spending my holidays in sweet solitude. This is probably due to the fact that I am around people all the time for work, and- being a natural extrovert- this is something I quite enjoy, but even I need my downtime. As I see it, holidays are the best days to get this much needed R&R in. I love to treat myself to a full blown spa day at my favorite hotels around town (The Montage, Four Seasons, etc). I book a massage, a facial, a body wrap, and just spend the entire day is plush robes and complete and total relaxation. I like to end my day with a good book and a great movie, or if I am feeling the need for some social interaction, a delicious dinner with friends is always the way to go. BBQ: The Fourth of July is the ultimate holiday for a backyard BBQ with your best friends! Such a fun time to get together, enjoy the warm weather, sip on some chilled Sangria, and have the time of your life. It’s the perfect opportunity for long and fulfilling conversations and making new friends. I generally like to get together with my friends in the early afternoon and spend the entire day goofing around and having fun. Beach: The beach is always on the menu as far as I am concerned. I absolutely love being by the water, digging my feet into the sand, and marveling over the beauty of the sea. While it can get a bit crowded on the Fourth of July, there are gorgeous stretches of beach in Southern California that are private and clean. Its like being in paradise for the day, lounging in the sun, and ending the night by watching gorgeous fireworks- this is my idea of magic! What are your favorite ways to spend the Fourth of July? Beach Hair, Don’t Care!

Beach Hair, Don’t Care!

I can’t believe that summer 2016 is upon us! This year is flying by so quickly, but I can’t complain because my favorite season is officially a few short weeks away. Whatever your travel plans may be this year, I hope you spend a significant amount of time relaxing at the beach. Not only is it beautiful, but being out in nature (especially by the ocean) is a soul-gratifying experience; Dig your feet into the sand, close your eyes and simply listen to the waves, and you will automatically understand what I mean. There is, however, one inevitable downfall of vacationing by the ocean and in tropical climates: it wreaks havoc on your hair. As you may know if you follow me on Instagram, I have been traveling back and forth to Hawaii for work, and it has given me the opportunity to truly figure out what to do to keep my hair looking picture-ready in tropical weather. Below are my top three tips for how to keep hair looking picture-perfect as you spend your day having fun in the sun: Embrace nature: Lets be honest, no matter what you do, your immaculate blow dry is not going to look so immaculate after a beach day. The air and the wind give you that messy, tousled effect, and as far as I am concerned, the best thing to do is go with the flow- embrace it! Instead of trying to beat the inevitable, use a product that will enhance what is naturally happening. One of my absolute favorite hair products for tropical weather is Bumble and Bumble’s Invisible Oil. This lightweight oils helps detangle and de-frizz beach hair as well as protecting it from sun damage. Braid your hair: Braids are definitely having a moment right now- you don’t have to look any further than Pinterest to see that they are all the rage. I love them because there is a variety of types you can do and it’s a pulled together hairstyle that has longevity. Braids and the beach is like champagne and strawberries- a perfect combination! Loose braids are always better because tight braids pull and damage the hair. I recommend using the Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil when you put the braid in so that when you brush it out you will be left with gorgeous waves (think of it as two hairstyles in one). Wear a hat: Perhaps the most basic solution of all is to take a chic hat with you wherever you go! Wide brim, cap, fedora- no matter what your style, a hat is a great way to solve your beach hair dilemma. As a bonus, a hat is also the ultimate way...

From Hawaii, With Love

From Hawaii, With Love

Aloha, my lovelies! I am pretty sure you’ve guessed it by now– I’ve been basking in the glow of Maui’s unreal sunlight these past few days. Believe it or not, I went to Maui for work; this is one of the factors of the career I’ve cultivated as a Master Hair Colorist that I love the most– I get to travel a lot! I don’t remember the last time a month went by without me being on an airplane at least three times to go teach a hair color education class. This works for me because I love to travel (I will never complain about living out of a suitcase) and because I tend to get restless if I stay put for too long. Another reason why this trip to Maui was an exceptionally special one for me is because it fell directly in the middle of my birthday and was the first one in my life that I’ve spent solo. As I believe one should on their birthday, I decided to treat myself by letting go and truly relaxing which isn’t too much of a challenge on a beautiful island. I feel so grateful for the people in my life and the work that I do. I am quite literally living my dream and I can’t wait to see what this year holds in store. Today, I am off to Las Vegas (talk about a change of pace) to teach a few classes there before I jet back to Chicago for classes, clients, and family. Make sure to keep up with my travel adventures on Instagram and Snapchat (both @reneetaglia) and check out the pictures of my few days in paradise below. Leave comments/questions in comments section– it makes my day to hear from you! The weather was so beautiful, I couldn’t get enough of it. I was basking in the glow for as long as possible until I had to teach! My amazing photographer, Eddie, got me this lei and it smelled divine. Loved shooting this– getting creative with photos is something that I really enjoy doing. Also, these rocks were surprisingly comfortable to lay on. In this picture, I am thinking: “This is truly paradise.” This was the most beautiful sunset I’ve ever seen.
